Literary Upheaval

My agent sent me a note that my publisher Carroll and Graf dissolved in a merger with Perseus Books and my editor Don Weise was let go. I don't know what to do with this information. Happy Tuesday.

That's so awful to have someone you have such a close working relationship with just get axed like that. Corporate mergers get the gas face. So what do you do next?

Wild. I know Perseus well. We'll talk.

I'm sorry to hear that. But Don is talented (and a nice guy), he'll land at a good place.

Crap. That's no fun. I know you'll land on your literary feet, though.

Thanks for the kind notes. I'm looking on the bright side. At least my novel was published AFTER it folded. I know writers who are in limbo with books to be published in 2008.

I was very saddened to hear Carroll & Graf will be no more. I heard about it at a reading at NYC's GLBT Community Center earlier this week. They did a great job of publishing some intereting writers (like yourself!). It seems that literary publishing is getting to be more and more difficult. I hope that will turn around.
