Literary Fullness

My glass is not half empty. It's so full that my cup might runneth over.
I have one more major event to work on this week, then I take some time off. Hopefully, I can get to do some really good writing. At this time, I'd been doing some good prepping. I've intereviewed a few specialists on blood disorders, a major part of my next novel.
It's frustrating because what I proposed to do in my novel the specialists said would never happen. So, now I'm considering other possibilites.
Other things I'd been doing for my literary life is prepping to interview the writer Armistead Maupin for the Aloud series at the Los Angeles Public Library on June 20.
Mr. Maupin is one of those writers I truly admire. I mean, one of the reasons I have a career is because he was a pioneer who paved the way. His Tales of the City series is one of those must-reads.
I got an e-mail from a friend alerting me that the Maupin event was sold out! Then I freaked because the auditorium must be able to sit some 300 people. Oy! I hope it all goes well.

Consider a miracle. I mean, regarding the blood disorder thing. I got hung up recently on some stuff I learned about Death Valley locations that conflicted with what I want to write, and my writing group urged me to ignore the facts and make the story work. It's done all the time. In fact, I picked up a novel at B&N the other day (damned if I can remember the title) and the author explained that although real places are described, a reader won't be able to hike the trail from place to place in the story because liberties were taken. This is something I have to get OVER in my writing. Place being VERY important to most of my stuff.

And please, they take such liberties with legal, medical and other facts on television...

Okay, that said...maybe facts are important to the integrity of the story for you, and you should try to find a way to change. But I beg you not to get hung up on it, if you can avoid it. It's such a drag.

OH MY GOD. Armistead Maupin!? Could I like, hold your coat? I'm bummed the event's sold out. I read all those SF books. Sigh. Have a WONDERFUL TIME!! (Will there be a video of it at the library or anything???)

Wow, you get to interview Armistead Maupin. See, for every literary screw up there's clearly a pot of gold around the corner!
