Literary Shreds

I had a very good discussion with my editor this morning. It was something I looked forward to and dreaded at the same time. I'd digested his comments and needed more clarification. After talking to him, I felt much better. I am more clear. Something we talked about was changing the beginning. I was beside myself when I read this suggestion. After talking to him, I understood. In one fell swoop, the first chapter went to the shredder. It's gone.

Chapter Two is the new Chapter one.

Wow. I thought you were the one who told me never to "delete"! I'm glad things are moving along. When's the book tour?

I know how you feel. When my agents gave me re-writes on Kelland, they too wanted the 1st chapter deleted and Chapter 2 became the new Chapter 1. Their arguments for that move made sense, but it was still hard. I'm glad I did it, though. Made the book just that much more cohesive, especially given the final chapter.

Noel, you have the best pictures accompanying each of your posts.

Ouch!

But you know, I wish I had some one taking the time with my manuscript that it needs. I'd be willing to get my hands scratched up pulling those weeds out. Easy for me to say, though.

Hey! Did you see the UCLA Writer's Faire postcard!??? It arrived in my mailbox last night, with your picture on it, on a panel.

Photogenic Man strikes again!

I guess they can bulk up the book by making the type bigger, so you can still have the same number of pages. Hah!

Oh man!
But so often, that first chapter is introduction without action. So, there it is. (Of course, you saved the first chapter somewhere...)
