Literary Cover

Let me begin by saying that in most cases, authors don't have a say on their covers. My editor sent me the cover of my next novel. It's lovely, literary, warm, romantic. And it's another photo of a guy's back side!

I wrote an e-mail to my editor and actually said, "Can we cover his ass more?" I asked that the emphasis be focused on his upper back and face. Otherwise, I think the image conveys a beautiful sense of dreaming--something that I explore in the story.

The cover of my first book....
When I was unpublished I hated when I heard an author whine about his covers. In the back of my mind, I thought: shut up already--be satisfied you've got a book. Now, I'm that author. (Life Lesson: Be careful who you curse. You become who you cursed.)

It looks f'ing gorgeous. One might be better off to leave well alone. You lucked out, kid.

Uhm, not the cover I sort of expected. (Don't hate me.) I think your suggestion would make it much better.

Looking forward to read the book. Hope it'll be available here in Manila.

Hey, don't feel uneasy about speaking up. Whatever the outcome, if you hadn't you would regret it later.

It's a really beautiful cover, but I think I do understand your concerns.

Hmm, wonder if the cover of my first book will feature the back of a nude woman in hiking boots overlooking Vasquez Rocks.

Nice. Beautiful Cover.

It's lovely. But you're right about cropping the art, especially since "moon" can be slang for "ass," in which case your beautiful title takes on a different meaning!

i can't wait to spoon this book

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing as Ver. If your editor needs convincing, you could remind him of the field day a mean reviewer could have with the "moon" thing. But, still, a pretty cover.

Glad it's coming that much further to fruition. I think you are right about what to emphasize in the picture.
