Literary Marshall

Here I am as a goofy student at Marshall High School, around 1985. (Ur, I'm the one in the middle.) Those glasses aren't prescription. I thought people with glasses looked kewl. So, I bought some on Melrose.

Yes, I had big hair--that's what a perm will do.

I didn't know that I was a writer then. I knew I was creative, but words were for other people. I was a stage guy.

I was intimidated by writing, scared of it really. I'm glad I faced my fears.

Looking at this picture made me feel sad. This was waaaay before the twin towers fell. In a way, it was really a more innocent time.

Stage people have big personalities, and often, big hair and big glasses. I remember when...

Omg, Noel, I TOTALLY had fake/non-prescription glasses in the 80's, including the preppy/Vuarnet-esque frames like yours in the photo (mostly because I was trying to emulate one of my idols, then, Molly Ringwald, LOL).

In those eyes and in that pure smile I see a really neat kid.

And, yes, I used to buy fake glasses and wear them too!

Why does it seem like teenagers dressed like tiny adults in the '80s, and adults dress like teenagers now? Is that just my own time-warped perspective, or is there something intrinsically adult about shoulder pads and childish about skinny jeans?
